Tube Race

A tube race down one of South Africa's fastest flowing rivers: the Eerste River (with a guaranteed water release). Starting at the Hangbrug the race will see you bouncing down rapids all the way to the finish just below the Piet Retief Street bridge (opposite Paul Roos). This section of the river winds through the town of Stellenbosch making for excellent viewing for spectators along Die Laan.
General information:
  • Start venue: Hangbrug, Coetzenberg (North bank).
  • Finish venue: Piet Retief Street Bridge.
  • Registration at start venue from 11:00 - 11:40.
  • Race briefing at 11:45.
  • Race start at 12:00.
  • Prize giving at Stellenbosch Heritage Day Festival in Die Laan (Noordwal-Oos Road).
The race will consist of an Inter-koshuis and an Open (for anyone) category. Prizes will only be awarded in the Inter-Koshuis event for the following:
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd mens/ladies residence.
  • Residence with the highest participation.
  • Residence with the most "gees".

Event format:
  • Teams of 2 people on 1 tractor tube.
  • Pre-entry before 14 September (entry forms on home page, mail to stbriverfest@gmail.com).
  • Entry fee - R20 per team (exluding equipment rental)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  • Make sure you have read the rules and regulations (on the entry form).
  • Life jackets and helmets are compulsory!
  • Life jackets can be hired if so indicated on the entry form (@R25).
  • Bring your own helmet (anything will do: bicycle, rugby scrumcap etc)
  • Closed shoes are compulsory.
  • Wetsuits are recommended
  • A limited number of tubes are available on a first come first served basis. Bring your own tube or make sure you enter early!
