Eerste River K1 Race

Arguably the most exciting and fun race on the Western Cape Canoeing Calendar. Non-stop rapids from start to finish. Main obstacles include 3 weirs and the infamous "Stay Main Rapid". The race is unique as it runs through the town of Stellenbosch as well as the surrounding winelands. There are fantastic viewing opportunities for seconds and spectators all along the route. A water release is guaranteed. Come and enjoy spectacular paddling on one of South Africa's fastest flowing rivers!

  • AR rated race.
  • Registration 08:30 - 09:30.
  • Race briefing 09:45.
  • Time trial start from 10:00 (as per CSA rankings, fastest first).
  • Start venue Hangbrug
  • Distance: 14km depending on start.
  • Finish at Spier Wine Estate.
  • Prize giving at Stellenbosch Heritage Day Festival in Die Laan (Noordwal-Oos Road across the river from Paul Roos) - braai stands are available so bring your chops and wors. Otherwise there will be numerous food stalls, wine/beer/cooldrink sales, entertainment, and the opportunity to watch the tube race while you relax next to the river.
